Background and Expertise
Captain Pancho "Barracuda" (born Francisco Alvarez Romero) is a highly respected sportfishing captain in Loreto, Baja California Sur. With over 35 years navigating the Sea of Cortez, he is widely regarded as a renowned local expert in the fishing community.
Growing up in Juancalito—a seaside ejido just south of Loreto—he learned artisanal moonlight shark fishing (arponear a mano) from his uncle, throwing hand-spears at sharks under the full moon from a small wooden panga. He later worked as a commercial diver and fisherman before launching his independent sportfishing business to support his family.
Pancho has spent his life on the water, honing deep, intuitive knowledge of the region's marine life and fishing grounds. Known for "old-school" instincts and relentless work ethic, he consistently delivers success—even in tough conditions—targeting dorado, yellowtail, snapper, grouper, cabrilla, pargo, and roosterfish.
Guest Experience
Guests rave about Pancho's instincts, his ability to locate marine life for up-close encounters, and his infectious humor and storytelling. His team of like-minded, skilled captains shares this passion, creating special memories in Loreto Bay National Marine Park.
Whether you're a first-time angler, seasoned fisherman, sightseer, snorkeler, or visitor, reviews confirm Pancho as a top choice for reliable, professional, and welcoming adventures. t}}
